Work to determine the extent of gasoline-related contamination in the vicinity of the Lhtako Gas and Convenience Store is almost complete. Although further assessment of soil, groundwater and soil vapour is still required in some specific areas, sufficient information has been collected to undertake field-testing and implementation of remediation options.

Various environmental activities will commence on September 5, 2023 and are expected to continue until October 13, 2023. These activities will be occurring on-reserve, within Arbutus Road and Red Willow Road, and on some residential properties. The proposed work includes the installation of wells associated with a groundwater pump and treat system on-reserve; completion of a drilling program to determine the extent of soil, groundwater and/or soil vapour contamination in specific areas on- and off-reserve; collection of soil, groundwater, soil vapour, tap water and/or indoor air samples; and installation of new water supply wells on impacted properties which are currently reliant on cisterns/hauled water.

Some of the planned work will require the closure of sections of Arbutus Road between 7:30 am and 6:00 pm between September 5, 2023 and September 22, 2023 and will involve periods of noise related to the use of environmental drilling and hydroexcavation equipment. SLR and on-site traffic control personnel will work with residents adjacent to the work areas to maintain access to driveways along Arbutus Road. However, a detour may be necessary via either Red Willow Road or Lust Road to access individual driveways.
