Project Update - June 25, 2025

Environmental activities are currently underway on lands surrounding the Lhtako Gas & Convenience Store. These activities are being conducted to meet BC Ministry of Environment and Parks (BC ENV) requirements (e.g. decommissioning discontinued drinking water wells and installing/sampling monitoring wells and soil vapour probes) or for the ongoing operation of the groundwater containment system (e.g. installation of additional infrastructure).

Extensive tap water and/or indoor air sampling has been conducted on private properties in the area surrounding the Lhtako Gas & Convenience Store since April 2023.  A summary of the latest sampling results is provided in the updated FAQs on this website.  

With the installation and operation of the groundwater containment system and the establishment of the network of soil vapour probes and groundwater monitoring wells, LGCL has notified BC ENV, Northern Health Authority and First Nations Health Authority of planned changes to the frequency of tap water and indoor air sampling at private properties in the area.  Please contact the project message line at 250-255-6432 (voicemail or text) or send an email to  lhtakoproject@slrconsulting.com if you would like the updated scheduling information for your property
