The following is an update of the environmental works conducted in October and November 2023 in connection with the fuel release at the Lhtako Gas & Convenience Store.
Tap water sampling continued at select properties in the Area of Notification in October and November. Consistent with the previous update, on-going tap water sampling has not identified any additional properties in the Area of Notification with concentrations of gasoline-related parameters above provincial and Health Canada drinking water criteria.
Progress on the establishment and field-testing of the groundwater containment system was made since the last update. The initial system analysis has been completed and initial analytical results confirm the treatment system is operating as designed and removing gasoline parameters from the extracted groundwater to below reportable detection limits prior to re-injection.
Results from the September-October 2023 drilling and groundwater sampling programs have been received and are being reviewed. These results will be reviewed with BC Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy, Indigenous Services Canada, Northern Health, First Nations Health and other agencies and communicated in a future update.
Other environmental activities were performed in November 2023 and are expected to continue through December 2023 including on-going testing and monitoring of the groundwater containment system, tap water and indoor air sampling, groundwater and soil vapour sampling, field-testing of vapour mitigation systems, and drilling of water supply wells at select properties.
